I like indulging my wanderlust

Open RoadI know I’ve said this before, but I like to travel. A lot. If the right song is on when I’m driving on a sunny afternoon, it’s a struggle to convince myself not to just “keep the car in drive and leave it all behind” (I know…I know…I’m better than using a John Mayer reference…it was a moment of weakness). Unfortunately for me, I am a man of limited funds and one gigantic responsibility (i.e. seminary and the rest of my life looming menacingly over every big decision I make right now). So, the prospects of me dropping everything and becoming a world traveler are slim. But what if there was a way to just torture myself with impossibilities by looking at pictures of exotic locales from all over the world?

Enter Woophy. Woophy stands for WOrld Of PHotographY and the site describes itself as attempting to “create an accessible, visual, current, democratic and collective work of art comprised of a database picturing our remarkable world.” As fancy as that sounds, the site is actually very simple: people upload pictures of different places and the pictures are placed on a world map. You can either search through the pictures using a search engine or you can just roam around the map and discover random places that you never even knew existed. Either way, this website will keep you occupied for hours.

So, go to Woophy and explore the world.

PS- If it seems like it’s taking a little while to load, just give it a few seconds. There’s something like 400,000 pictures in the database so it can slow down every once in awhile.

PPS- Check out this video I just linked to on the ‘Who?’ page. It’s about a hobo/hippie village on the river in Columbia, SC (where I’m from). It’s called Zooville and the video shows some good shots of the scenery that I miss so much now that I’m up here in Philadelphia.

I like dancing world travelers

Since that last post was mainly informative and won’t keep anyone distracted from their responsibilities for very long, here’s another one. Two in one day. Don’t get spoiled.

I like traveling a lot, and lately I’ve had a pretty big case of wanderlust. So I decided to go looking for a video that I found awhile ago with the hopes that it would satiate (but more likely exacerbate) my condition. The video is of a guy named Matt Harding doing a goofy dance all over the world with a ton of different people. You can read the story behind the video, get a lot more information, and watch some of his other videos at his website, WheretheHellisMatt.com.

This is one of the videos I like the most out of all the videos I’ve seen on the internet. It’s Matt’s most recent video, and you may have already seen it since it’s got over 16 million hits on YouTube. But it never hurts to watch again and be amazed at how lucky this guy is to have been able to do this.

My favorite scene is at 1:41 when he’s in Sana’a, Yemen, because hearing the Arabic in the background reminds me of being in Beirut, which is one of my favorite places I’ve been to (or, “to which I’ve been” for all you sticklers out there). What’s your favorite scene?

PS- If you haven’t already, go check the Burger King post for a couple of updates.
